I am very much involved in a martial art. Brazilian jiu-jitsu has been a part of my life for 7 1/2 years.
What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
Since 1909, Brazilian jiu-jitsu has grown in popularity throughout world, but even with the plethora of schools and instructors, jiu-jitsu has often been overlooked. A majority of the public’s first assumption about jiu-jitsu is that it is like many other well-known martial arts. For example; Karate, Tae Kwando, Krav Maga, or Judo.
Jiu-jitsu is a combat sport that focuses mainly on ground fighting. Unlike the other martial arts, jiu-jitsu does not teach hand-to-hand combat, punching, or kicks. Brazilian Jiu-jitsu upholds the concept that a smaller and weaker person can successfully defend themselves against a stronger and bigger attacker using proper technique and leverage.
Has anyone else ever experienced Brazilian jiu-jitsu? If so, what was your experience like? Was it positive or negative?
