History
I am involved in a variety of activities within my school. For the past two years I have been in a group of high school students called Spart Crew. Our group participates in several leadership training lessons over the summer along with arriving early the first day of school to welcome the freshman and show them around before the rest of the students come. I am also in R.A.K.E (Random Acts of Kindness Etc.) Club. We focus on trying to do kind acts throughout the week like leaving encouraging notes in random lockers, writing teachers letters of appreciation, or cleaning desks in rooms throughout the school. Another activity that I’m involved with is Sumner High School’s annual Community Dinner. We collect food by putting on a competition between classes to see who can raise the most canned goods from October to December and then give it away to those in need at the dinner. Last year the school collected nearly 46,000 items which increases year to year.
I participate in a church group called Mission Trek that serves greatly in this area. This is a group of students, from middle school to high school age, that put on community dinners, auctions, help around the community, and sell coffee throughout the year to help pay for a mission trip during the summer. This past year I went with a group to Moore, Oklahoma to help with the tornado relief. While in Oklahoma the Mission Trek group focused on making sure victims’ needs were met and surpassed. Some of the families hit by the tornado were helped right away, however, my group focused more on the ones who were left behind or were taken advantage of by the insurance companies. I met a lot of people who had lost loved ones and much of their belongings because of the tornado. During this trip, we listened to victims tell their stories and tried to make them feel like life was normal again. The group of high school students did this by helping put up new walls and fences, painting the exterior of houses, and removing debris from the yards.
