Music has taught me discipline and patience, as mastering a new song takes time and effort. My name is Keira Greene, and I am a high school junior with a passion for music, particularly playing the guitar. I have been playing guitar for three years, and it has become a significant part of my life. Music has always been a way for me to express myself, and learning to play the guitar has opened up a whole new world of creativity and joy.
When I first picked up the guitar, I was drawn to the sounds of iconic bands like Nirvana and Deftones. Their music spoke to me, and I was determined to learn how to play their songs. Over time, I have taught myself how to play some of their most popular tracks, such as "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana and "Change (In the House of Flies)" by Deftones. These songs have not only helped me improve my skills but also deepened my appreciation for the artistry involved in music.
In addition to these bands, I have also learned to play other classic songs like "Sweet Child o' Mine" by Guns N' Roses and "Blackbird" by The Beatles. Each song presents its own challenges and rewards, and mastering them has been incredibly fulfilling. Playing the guitar allows me to unwind and express emotions that are sometimes hard to put into words.
Interestingly, I have learned that certain decibels of music can actually have healing effects on the body. This fascinating connection between music and health has inspired me to pursue a career in healthcare. I am particularly interested in how music therapy can be used to promote healing and well-being. Understanding the impact of music on the body and mind has strengthened my desire to study medicine and help others in a meaningful way.
As I look towards the future, I am excited to continue my education and explore my interests in medicine. Bench pressing 75 pounds might not seem like much to some, but it represents my commitment to pushing my limits and improving myself every day.
Balancing academics and sports has been challenging, but it has also been incredibly rewarding. Maintaining a 4.0 GPA while engaging in these activities has taught me how to manage my time effectively and prioritize my responsibilities. These skills will be crucial as I transition to college and eventually medical school, where the demands will be even greater.

Volunteering at the clinic not only strengthened my desire to pursue a career in medicine but also taught me the importance of empathy and cultural sensitivity, especially given my own Asian and Hispanic heritage.
In addition to my work at the health clinic, I have also volunteered at a local food bank, where I helped sort and distribute food to families in need. This experience opened my eyes to the struggles many people face in accessing basic necessities.
