Education History
Going through public schooling all my life I have become a well-rounded person, overall, because of the never-ending opportunities I was allowed to take advantage of. having students across all socioeconomic backgrounds I have become accustomed to working with all different kinds of people that I will do in the working world during and after college. I have always challenged myself in my coursework and taken the AP class over just the regular course if it was available and doable at the time I was taking the courses. When I did not take the tougher class in a certain subject it was because I wanted to focus my time and energy on a course that I felt would benefit my education more in the long run than that one class. Although I have always known I wanted to be a doctor when I grew up, I have kept my options open and stayed in classes like Marketing Management (school store) and Tiger Pride, a leadership class, because they connect me to people that could write me recommendation letters or help me get to where I want to be in the future. Those classes have also given me skills for the real world that no other class could have taught me such as vulnerability and integrity in leadership, and soft skills when talking to people in the real world.
Awards
As a competitive dancer for thirteen years, I have one many awards, not alone, but with the help of my team. At dance conventions I won many scholarships and invitations to go to another convention or dance at a summer camp. For example, in eighth grade I auditioned for the Joffrey Ballet School, a prestigious ballet school known world-wide, and I received a twenty-five percent tuition scholarship to go dance at one of their summer boot camps. That summer I traveled to Denver, Colorado to dance alongside some of their most well-known instructors and other dancers from around the country. The greatest award I have won from all these years at the dance studio is that there is no "I" in "team" and that it takes everyones one-hundred percent otherwise we will not achieve what we want to. In the medical field, I will apply this to my work because if not every medical staff is on board with the treatment plan then we will not end up with the results we want.
Employment History
As a prospect for the medical field and being from Kansas City there have been many opportunities presented to me. For example, last year I started my shadowing experience at the University of Kansas Medical Center. I shadowed a plastic surgeon and sat in on many different surgeries. This allowed me to gain clinical and patient skills that I will continue to use throughout my medical career.
Community Service
History
As a young adult in society I believe is it my responsibility to give back to the community so I have done that by volunteering at local hospitals, such as St. Luke's South Hospital and Children's Mercy Hospital. Clubs in my school community have been a large portion of my volunteer experiences because they are what I am passionate about and they allow be to give back and have fun at the same time. Students Assist Schools is a club that I participate in almost weekly to help other schools in our district with minor tasks that they could help getting done. An example of this is helping the librarians put books back on the shelves after students have checked them out.
Additional Info
I love helping people and that is what I want my career to be full of. I do not want to be a doctor because of the rewarding salary that comes with it; I want to become a person that people come to when they need help. Helping people and making their day better brings me so much joy.
