“What in the world am I doing here? Are you serious?” At the age of seven, my mother took me to a special place on the upper east side of Manhattan to get evaluated because of the academic problems that I was going through. After being evaluated the person that examined me told my mother that I was diagnosed with ADHD. This caused me not to care about my education at all by the time I arrived to middle school.
Having ADHD was a horrible experience because I was always hyper. I was struggling to pass all my classes because I was in a bigger classroom with almost thirty students. In the eighth grade, I ended up being separated from the people that were in my sixth and seventh grade class due to my behavior. However, once I got separated I said to myself, “Summer it’s time for me to take my education seriously, no more playing games.” Refocusing on my school work, I began to work harder in order to maintain my GPA. After I graduated from the eighth grade, I realized that working hard during the school year pays off.
Junior year had arrived! My wakeup call came to me when I said to myself, “Summer do you want to go to college or what do you want to do after you graduate from high school?” I made sure nobody was going to put me down when it came to chasing my goals. A week before October ended, I was walking down the halls and I saw my name on the honor roll list. I couldn’t picture myself on my school’s honor roll. I felt blessed and accomplished.
I overcame the situation by studying very hard for all my state exams and maintained my GPA regardless what was going on with me or anything in today’s society. For example, People expected me that I was not going anywhere in life because plenty of people disliked and hated me. They used to think i was weak because of my academic problems. I always proved the people that used to bully me wrong. However, when I realized that I needed to stop settling for less and strive for more by believing in myself. My goals for when I’m at college are to become a graphic designer and a visual artist. For my backup plan to want to study art education. Also, I want to join the honors program because that’s the great way for me to become successful in life, and its a wonderful opportunity and i never had to chance to join the honors program.
Now, I could say that I overcame my learning disability by working and studying very hard. When I enter to go college as an incoming freshman, I’m going to strive and be the best person that i could be in my aspring career.
