This essay will be about my mother, Danuta Iverson, because in my opinion my mother is an inspirational person with interesting background.
Danuta was born in 1975 in Poland during the communistic regime while Jaruzelski was The General. The General during this time in Poland was like a president, with one different, he had unlimited power over the country as a "people leader" and as the” army leader”.
My mother's childhood was not as glamorous as mine because she and her family did not own house or a car. My mom as a child only had one teddy bear as a toy. She did not have birthday parties with a lot of presents either. The description of birthday party in Poland, during 70’s and 80’s was one cake maybe with candles, if you get lucky, and as guests you could only invite family members. I know it sounds awful and selfish but for this generation living in not democratic country was very typical and consider ‘Normal”. Also, I did not mention NO presents were given to the birthday kid. The “no presents policy” was not because no one liked my mother it was due to lack of inventory in Polish markets. Polish stores did not have products to sell including toys and food. The variety of food was minimum. The communistic regime also included police and government brutality. My mom used to tell me underground stories about people who tried to fight against this type of political power and what had happened to them at the end of fight. Majority of them got put in prison or they got killed. That is the reason why my grandparents (parents of my mom) care a lot about education. They believed that though good grades and educational rewards my mom future would be better.
Danuta finished Chemical Engineering University in Poznan, Poland and was awarded for her learning achievements. She received International Student Visa with authorization to come to USA. Since she moved to America, she become very successful woman with a great career that she loves. She works as Medical Scientist at Denver Health in Colorado and she is working in the front line against the Covid-19 pandemic. My mother inspires me because she believed that through education, she would be able to make her dream come true. The dream of better future. I will copy my mother footsteps and archive great career. I will not stop in that process till I will be satisfied with myself and my believes.
