Community Service
History
I am the community service outreach officer of the National Honor Society at my school. Community Service is my passion. My role as the community service officer is to create new opportunities for the 120 students in the chapter to give back to their community. I am also an active member of FACS (Family and Community Service) club. In this club I organize monthly trips to the senior citizen center and I participate in other groups. Some of the other things I participate in through FACS include special ED bowling, track and dance events, blood drives, angel tree, and working in the humane society. Through FACS I also go to two elementary schools a week and work with a buddy who needs special attention. Nothing makes me more happy then being able to work away from myself and into my community.
Additional Info
I not only partake in local community service but I also love to go international. Ever since my 6th grade summer I have been going on a mission trip with my church (Riverside Community Church) to a small town right on the border of Mexico. This was my first taste of what mission work truly meant. We would go build houses and provide a VBS for the kids in the community but most importantly we built relationships. As I got older I was able to travel farther. In the summer of 2018 I went on a mission trip to Haiti. While I was here we got to work in orphanages and clinics where I found a true passion for providing medicine and aid to those in need. This trip changed my life in more ways than one. On the 2nd to last day of the trip, by shear destiny, a tree fell on me while I was working. The tree didn't do enough damage to kill me, but it did cause me to have a compression fracture in my spine and ended my high school running career. This still has not deterred me from my calling to mission work. This past summer 2019 I went on a mission trip to Uganda. While I was in Uganda I got to work with an incredible organization called Musana. Musanas goal is to reach community self sustainability. Getting to work alongside this organization really showed me what it looks like to empower people to provide for themselves. Instead of giving people crutches they give them the therapy to walk on their own. It is my desire to be able to work abroad with organizations like this and give more of a meaning to my education.
