History
When I was 15 years old, I volunteered at my local hospital over the summer for six weeks in the following fields: Ambulatory Surgical Services, Gastroenterology, General Surgery, and Orthopedic Surgery.
Additional Info
I have decided to go into medicine as an Orthopedic Surgeon because of my orthopedic injury and the care that I received from my former physician.
At the hospital, I took patients' vitals, collected urine samples, watched endoscopies, colonoscopies, gall bladder removals, hernia repairs, lipoma removals, total joint replacements, and orthopedic elective cases.
When I was working at my hospital I did not just shadow, at home after hours, I put together my own medical textbooks by researching medical conditions, terminology, and drawing anatomical diagrams. I even learned how to suture, while still being in high school.
